A Translation Service Update: Standard Mode Grows Steadier

Standard mode is the one most of you use every day. Some unusual individual subtitles used to trip up the AI and drag their neighbors down with them. We strengthened how Standard mode handles those cases — and we will keep improving it. No app update needed.

Standard mode is the translation mode most people use in SubEnvoy. Binge-watching a series, catching up on a documentary, translating a lecture — most of the time, this is the mode doing the work.

And because it is used so often, every small flaw gets noticed: a line of dialogue shows up twice while the line that should follow it is missing, two neighboring subtitles say almost the same thing, or a line has no translation at all.

This update is about Standard mode.

The trouble usually starts with a single line

Most lines come through just fine. The ones that cause problems are the unusual ones:

A line that is only a word or two long. A row carrying symbols or numbering. Text whose formatting looks a little off. There are not many of them, but they can throw the model off on that one line — and the mistake spreads to the lines around it. The translation meant for one subtitle lands on the next one, or two lines get merged into one.

Across an entire file, that is a small defect. In front of you, it is a pause and a manual fix.

What changed

We went back over how Standard mode translates, so it keeps a better grip on the relationship between each line and its surroundings, and is far less likely to be thrown off by an unusual line.

And when something does go wrong, the service now detects it and repairs that single line while everything already translated stays exactly as it is. You no longer have to redo a whole file over a handful of subtitles.

Occasional service hiccups also no longer stop an entire job, and you will not be shown a half-finished, half-repaired result while corrections are still running.

We will keep at it

Subtitle translation spans too many languages, sources, and formats for any single change to settle everything.

This update addresses the most common pattern we see today. We will keep watching how Standard mode performs — collecting reports, reproducing problems, adjusting, and checking again. Not every improvement will make it into a changelog, but the work will continue.

If you run into obvious repetition or a missing line, please tell us through the in-app feedback option, ideally with the title, an approximate timestamp, and the target language. Specific reports like these are where every improvement begins.

This update is recorded in the changelog.
